Family Tree (1768 - 1944) for Annie Thompson Chase (1868-1944)

Family Tree (1768 - 1944) for Annie Thompson Chase (April 17, 1868 - January 1944)

Her Mother’s relatives

Julia Eugenia (Hamilton) Thompson is Annie T Chase’s mother
Born in 1840 in Bernardston, Massachusetts
Married Thomas Undergraf Thompson in 1860 and had 3 children:

  1. Mary Thompson (April 20, 1864 Williamsport, PA - July 7, 1938 LaGrange, Ill) became Mrs. Ayres D. Lundy of Chicago.  They had a daughter named Esther Lundy (who lived in LaGrange).  She married a nephew of Annie T. Chase named George Newcomb

2. Elizabeth Thompson (1862 - 1931) married Mr. Norton (who died) and later    Joseph C. Gafford

      3. Annie T. Chase

From 1860 until 1886, Julia lived with her husband in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where Thomas ran a very successful lumber mill.  In 1880, a forest fire burnt much of his lands.   In 1881, his box factory in New Jersey also burnt down.
At age 60, he did not want to incur any debt, so he moved his family to Wakarusa, Kansas.  Julia’s father, George W. Hamilton, had homesteaded a 360 acre farm about ½ mile north of Wakarusa.  There was a log cabin on the parcel of land when Thomas, Julia and family arrived in 1886.  (My grandfather, Hamilton Chase, told me (in 1965) that 80 acres of the original parcel of land still exists in 2016 as a blue stem grass preserve).
This was a difficult move for a successful Eastern family, so Thomas bought a house on the west side of Topeka (1200 block of Topeka Ave) a few years later.  Here, the 3 ladies of his family were much more comfortable and were soon embraced by Topeka “society”.
Julia died in Los Angeles, California, in 1916

Julia Eugenia’s parents were George Washington Hamilton and Ester Parker Essex.
Ester Parker Essex was born in North Adams, Massachusetts in 1811 and died in 1845.

George W. Hamilton was born in Bernardston, Massachusetts in 1811.
He married Ester but she died in 1845.  Then, George sailed around Cape Horn to California during the Gold Rush of 1849 before he settled in Wakarusa, Kansas in 1850.  His only child was Julia.

George W. Hamilton was the son of John Hamilton and Elizabeth Farrell (Hamilton).
John was born in Bernardston, Mass in  1768 and died in Bernardston, Mass in 1857.
Elizabeth Farrell was born in 1773.
